The Indigenous Summer Games are expanding their celebration of Indigenous culture and community with the addition of a new jigging competition at the 2026 event in Yellowknife.

Taking place on Saturday, June 20, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at École Sir John Franklin High School, the competition will showcase the energy, skill, and tradition of jigging while welcoming participants of all experience levels.

The contest is open to everyone ages 13 and older, and participants do not need to be registered in the Indigenous Summer Games to take part. There is no cost to enter.

Competitors will be divided into four categories:

  • Junior Female (ages 13–17)

  • Junior Male (ages 13–17)

  • Open Female (ages 18 and up)

  • Open Male (ages 18 and up)

Prizes will be awarded in each division.
