Athletes, coaches, officials, and sport volunteers in the Northwest Territories will now have access to discounted airfare through a new partnership between the Indigenous Sports Circle NWT (ISCNWT), Sport North Federation, and Air North.
The organizations have partnered to create the NWT Sport Travel Fare Program, which offers reduced airfare rates and additional travel benefits to members in good standing of ISCNWT, Sport North Federation, and Territorial Sport Organizations, including Special Olympics NWT, NWT School Sports, and the NWT 55+ Games.
Travel remains one of the most significant expenses associated with sport participation in the Northwest Territories. Whether attending competitions, training camps, leadership development opportunities, or other events, athletes and sport organizations often face substantial travel costs due to the territory's geography and the distances required to access opportunities both within and outside the NWT.

The new program is intended to help address those challenges by providing eligible travellers with access to discounted fares and additional travel benefits through Air North.
Beginning today, eligible members can access the NWT Sport Travel Fare Program. Full details of the program—including eligibility requirements, fare structures, booking procedures, and available benefits—are available through ISCNWT and Sport North Federation.
“This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to improving access to sport and recreation opportunities for Indigenous participants across the Northwest Territories. Year after year, our members tell us the cost of travel is one of the greatest barriers to participation. We are proud to partner on a solution that helps reduce those costs and makes sport more accessible for athletes, coaches, officials, and communities. We hope this partnership serves as a catalyst for future collaborations that expand travel support and better meet the needs of communities across the NWT,” said Aaron Wells, Executive Director of ISCNWT.
“Sport North Travel remains one of the greatest challenges facing northern athletes," said Bill Othmer, Executive Director of Sport North Federation. "Sport North is excited to add an additional partnership with Air North, this partnership will create more opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers to access affordable and reliable transportation. These partnerships strengthen our ability to support sport development across the North."
Air North says the agreement reflects the airline's commitment to supporting northern athletes and sport organizations as they travel to competitions, training opportunities, and events.
“Sport has the power to build confidence, create connections, and open doors to new opportunities,” said Benjamin Ryan, Chief Commercial Officer of Air North. “We're proud to partner with NWT sport organizations and help make it easier for athletes, coaches, and support staff to access the competitions, training opportunities, and experiences that help them grow and represent their communities with pride.”
