Whether you’re completely new to archery or looking to sharpen your competitive skills, Archery NT is launching a comprehensive outdoor target clinic designed to help participants move from learning the basics to competing in organized tournaments.
The 2026 Outdoor Target Learn to Shoot, Learn to Compete Clinic will take place throughout June at the YK Ski Club Biathlon Range and the ISCNWT Multi Sport Building in Yellowknife. Registration form is at the bottom of this page.
The clinic is open to participants ages 12 and older, including adults. Participants under the age of 12 may attend with parental supervision. Registration is limited to 20 participants. The cost is $200 per person and includes equipment use, coaching, range access, and tournament participation opportunities. Participants must purchase an active Archery NT membership prior to attending the clinic.

Building Skills for Competition
The program is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of archery while also preparing athletes for registered target competitions held throughout the year. It also serves as a development pathway for youth athletes interested in eventually competing at events such as the Arctic Winter Games and the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Québec City.
Participants will receive structured coaching from NCCP-certified coaches Shane and Nicole, both Intermediate Level Coaches, along with Sophia, a Basics Level Coach. Training topics include:
Range and shooting safety
Equipment setup and familiarization
Shooting form and technique
Tournament etiquette and procedures
Scoring and scorecard completion
Warmup techniques
Shot clock operation
Competition preparation
The clinic also includes access to Archery NT barebow equipment, safety gear, targets, and supervised use of the outdoor range during the season.
Outdoor Training and Tournament Experience
Training sessions begin on Friday, June 12, 2026, and continue over multiple weekends and practice nights throughout June. Participants will progressively work through shooting distances, form development, and tournament-style scoring.
An optional registered Archery Canada 720 Tournament will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, giving clinic participants the chance to experience official competition in a supportive environment. Clinic participants can enter at no additional cost, while non-clinic participants may also register separately.
To close out the program, clinic participants will also receive free entry to the Archery Canada Tournament & BBQ on Sunday, June 28.
Preparing for the Outdoors
Because much of the clinic takes place outdoors at the biathlon range, participants are encouraged to come prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes, water, snacks, sunscreen, and camp chairs. Organizers note that safety remains a major focus throughout the clinic experience.
With a mix of beginner instruction, structured coaching, and competitive opportunities, the clinic offers a rare chance for Northern athletes to build archery skills in a pathway connected directly to provincial and national competition.
