ISCNWT Launches Trial Run of PLAYBuilder in NWT Schools

ree

The Indigenous Sport Circle of the Northwest Territories (ISCNWT) is excited to announce a pilot program bringing PLAYBuilder by Sport for Life into schools across the NWT. This digital platform is designed to support teachers, coaches, and community leaders in delivering high-quality physical literacy programming for children and youth.

Pilot Schools and Dates

This fall, ISCNWT is running trial sessions in four schools across the territory:

  • Ulukhaktok – September 7–14

  • N’Dilo – September 17 and several additional days throughout the year

  • Fort Good Hope – September 22–26

  • Norman Wells – November 2–6

In each community, ISCNWT staff work alongside physical education classes to showcase PLAYBuilder activities and highlight how play supports the development of physical literacy.. Following this, teachers receive hands-on training to implement the program and make use of PLAYBuilder’s wide range of resources. ISCNWT will also return to these schools in the spring to provide ongoing support and ensure that teachers have what they need to succeed.

While this trial run focuses on the four pilot schools, ISCNWT is open to adding a few more schools this year and plans to expand into new schools across the NWT in the 2025–26 school year. ISCNWT is also looking to train more educators to serve as Physical Literacy Leads, giving schools local champions who can bring PLAYBuilder to life in classrooms and communities.

What is PLAYBuilder?

PLAYBuilder is an easy-to-use online platform that helps educators, coaches, and leaders create, manage, and deliver effective physical activity programs. It includes:

  • 1100+ activities and 190+ lesson plans ready to use.

  • Custom content management so teams can share activities, plans, and camp programming.

  • A term planner that generates a full term of physical education lessons in under a minute.

Designed to save teachers time and inspire more active learning, PLAYBuilder builds confidence in both educators and students while fostering lifelong movement skills.

Looking Ahead

By piloting PLAYBuilder in NWT schools, ISCNWT is laying the groundwork for stronger physical literacy across the territory. This initiative not only supports teachers but also helps ensure that youth have access to fun, inclusive, and engaging physical activity opportunities.

Schools interested in bringing PLAYBuilder to their classrooms—or educators eager to become trained Physical Literacy Leads—are encouraged to reach out to ISCNWT to learn more.
