Registration Now Open for the 2026 Indigenous Summer Games in Yellowknife

The countdown is on. The 2026 Indigenous Summer Games (ISG) are set to return bigger, stronger, and more competitive than ever, and registration is officially open.
Taking place June 19–21 at École Sir John Franklin High School in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, this marks the third edition of the Indigenous Summer Games—a growing celebration of strength, skill, and Indigenous culture from across the North and beyond.
This year’s event is shaping up to be the most exciting yet, bringing together athletes of all levels to compete, connect, and carry forward the traditions of Northern and Dene Games.
A Showcase of Strength and Tradition
Athletes will compete in a wide range of traditional events that test power, endurance, agility, and mental toughness.
Northern Games events include:
One Foot High Kick
Two Foot High Kick
Alaskan High Kick
Swing Kick
One Hand Reach
Knuckle Hop
Airplane
Kneel Jump
Triple Jump
Dene Games events include:
Stick Pull
Finger Pull
Leg Wrestling
Individual Pole Push
Bow and Arrow
Ring Toss
Tea Boiling (Open Division only)
Fish Cutting
Axe Throwing
Adding even more excitement this year, the ISG will host a trial event for the first time: Canoe Races, expanding the competition and creating new opportunities for athletes to showcase their skills on the water.
Divisions for All Athletes
The Indigenous Summer Games are designed to be inclusive and competitive, with four divisions:
Open Male (18+)
Open Female (18+)
Junior Male (13–17)
Junior Female (13–17)
Whether you’re an experienced competitor or stepping into the games for the first time, ISG offers a platform to test yourself and be part of something bigger.
Registration Details
Registration is now open, and athletes are encouraged to secure their spot early.
Early Bird (until June 5): $20
Regular Registration (after June 5): $40
Registration includes swag, accommodations at the school, and entry into the competition, making it accessible for athletes traveling from across the territory.
